Week 21-1: Fabrics and samples

Before I start design development, I definitely needed to decide fabrics because I need the information for my designs. Colour, texture, heaviness and drape, those are very important to draw designs. So I spent for 2 days to rearrange my fabric board.

I added a little more warm colour like ivory, sepia and orange. Fabrics are, medium to heavyweight wool, orange neoprene like synthetic, suede, organza, chiffon, lace, Lycra. I also had an idea to use feathers to describe fire. It was in my head from very early stage.

So I bought a pillow and took goose feather out from it and dyed in 5 different colours, cream, yellow, right orange, dark orange and brown.

After they completely dried up, I put them into a small bag made of the front is very fine clear organza, and a piece of micro fibre poly for the back.

Another sample is making random french seam on chiffon. I wanted to represent  ghostly branch shadow.

Lastly, I tried putting all fabrics onto a mannequin to get images. And it was next to me all the time when I was developing.
